This piece of paper has three excerpts copied from the ANACORTES AMERICAN.
1) On August 8, 1979, an article was written titled, "Opinion asked on Heart Lake plans." It detailed the $900,000 authorized by the Legislature for the purchase property for a state park at Heart Lake.
2) The paper printed a letter to the editor from Gerry Wallrath on August 29, 1979 titled "Search ends at Fidalgo Island." Wallrath explained that after living for 25 years in Edmonds he was discouraged by ambiance and decided to move to Anacortes. He encouraged local citizens to embrace the ideals of Evergreen Islands, Inc. to preserve the forest on Fidalgo.
3) W.M. Martin wrote a letter to the editor on October 24, 1979, objecting to the park on the grounds that it would "steal from the School Fund."
