|Scope & Content||
This souvenir program was created for the Anacortes Marineers' Pageant held July 18 - 21, 1940; it was the fourth annual pageant. The program consists of 16 pages of advertisements, programs of events and shows, explanations of flags and timing and course distance for boat races, and classifications of outboards. T. F. Henwood was the President of the organization.
The Pageant began in 1937 as a festival to celebrate our marine heritage. There were many water events viewed from Marine Stadium (amphitheater) located on Cap Sante, a salmon barbeque, parades for children and for adults, street activities such as a watermelon eating contest, fireworks, coronation and other balls, and activities at Causland Park. World War II apparently interrupted the annual event, and it was held sporadically until its demise after 1957.
