The September 27, 1946, SEA HAWK NEWS by Anacortes High School students included news of Duane Berentson (including photo) being named editor of the RHODODENDRON, three new teachers (Miss Celesta Kinder, Miss Marcelle Bollum, and Charles N. Williams), school and class and club officers, Annette Bessner (including photo) being named editor of the SEA HAWK NEWS for fall semester, and the addition of lights for the football field.

Close-up of entry for Children's Parade, "The ARK". It replicates a boat that made headlines in Anacortes in May 1940. The boat belonged to the Satko family, who came to Washington from Virginia during the Great Depression of 1929-1940. Paul and Mollie Satko, together with seven children from two marriages, headed west c. 1938 aboard the "skeleton of a boat fitted to chassis of a truck." Upon arriving at Puget Sound, the craft, dubbed ARK OF JUNEAU, failed the Coast Guard seaworthiness test. A court order forbade Satko from sailing until specified changes had been made. After a week-long stay in Anacortes, sponsored by the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce, the Satkos defied the court order. Earl

The Methodist-Episcopal Church on the north side of 8th Street between Q and R avenues was organized in Anacortes on June 28, 1890. On 7-3-1890, the ANACORTES AMERICAN reported, "Church organizations" "Methodist Church organized in this city." The 1-15-1891, paper reported, "Revival meetings under the auspices of the Methodist Church are now in full swing in Bowmans Hall." Construction of the church began in 1892. Economy slowed construction and the church wasn't completed until 1902. In October 1904 a severe storm damaged the 110' belltower on the church and the tower was subsequently lowered to the level of the roof peak.
