Queen Norine Chiabai, wearing the cape, is at the rear with the young children serving as her attendants. In front of her are Princesses Roberta Sullivan and Ardelle Rock. Eight other young women stand in front of them, among them, Florence Adams, Rita Bargewell, Lyla Keltz, and Beverly Leake. It appears that Mrs. Doris Packard, Mistress of Ceremonies for the 1947 and 1948 Pageants, is at the microphone to her left. This image is of the 1949 Marineers' Pageant royalty float carrying Queen Norine Chiabai and Princesses Roberta Sullivan, Ardelle Rock, Florence Adams, Rita Bargewell, Lyla Keltz,and Beverly Leake. The float is decorated with a maritime motif of anchor and lighthouse and is passing South Side Texaco Service station at 18th and Commercial. The station was listed here in the 1948 and 1954 city directories, but was gone by 1962. 18,000 people attended this rainy parade according to the 7-28-1949 ANACORTES AMERICAN.

Norine Chiabai was a majorette with the Anacortes High School band 1945-1949, and graduated in 1949. She was the 1949 Marineers' Pageant queen and later won the Miss Washington contest in the early 1950s.
