As a sophomore in 1945 at Anacortes High School, Duane Berentson was named on two All-Northwest honorary basketball teams following the Northwest District tournament. The EVERETT DAILY HERALD wrote: "Rarely does a sophomore receive an all-star nomination, but the Anacortes flash performed so notably at the Mount Vernon gym, it was almost impossible to omit him. Not only was Berentson the high scorer of the district tournament, but his floor game played an important part in the great showing of the Sea Hawk quintet throughout the meet." This clipping is from an undated unknown newspaper, but one probably published in Anacortes.
