Anacortes High School was constructed in 1931 at 1600 20th. It was just south of the Columbian School, which had served Anacortes students since 1892. In 1931, 83% of Anacortes voters approved spending $90,000 to build a new high school. The 9-2-1931 ANACORTES AMERICAN reported the high school's completion and its dedication ceremonies on 9-5-1931. It opened the following Monday for 271 students in grades 10, 11, and 12. Some Works Progress Administration (WPA) funds and labor were used in constructing the school.
