|Caption||Dr. Harry L. Dodge|
Dr. Edwin Dodge, son of Harry L. Dodge, gave 11 images to Dr. Mel Farnsworth, who shared them with the museum in 2014.
On the back of this photo is written, "I had a cut made for program of Wash State Jewelers program and this is a print from same. I was first Secretary of the Assn and at present a Trustee. Not much stuck on getting my "mug" in print but they kept after me 'til I fell for it. H.L. Dodge"
Hartman (Harry) L. Dodge came to Anacortes in 1901 and opened a drug store. By 1902, Harry had diversified and advertised his business at 514 Commercial as H. L. Dodge, Jeweler, Optician, pianos, musical merchandise, Edison and Victrola distributor. Dodge's business reflected the late 1800s and early 1900s, before optometry was an established profession and jewelers offered optometry services. From 1927-1929, H. L. Dodge was listed as simply, "Optometrist" at 514 Commercial.
