Caption "The Gospel Messengers"
Description This is the first of four publicity portraits that Brady took of three young men. The photo is labeled "The Gospel Messengers" on the negative. The group was one of many evangelical groups that came through Anacortes in the 1920s and 1930s, often performing at religious revival programs. For example, see these articles from the 7-22-1926, ANACORTES AMERICAN: "old time gospel tent at 25th and Commercial"; "Evangelist F. C. Warren of Los Angeles brings a unique and original illustrated message"; "Revival tent opens in Anacortes Sunday"; "The big white tent that has recently made its appearance on Commercial at 25th Street will house a four-week revival campaign beginning Sunday, July 25th"; "Made up of three young men, the Tobey-Norgaard evangelistic party from California includes two Tobey brothers and Wesley Norgaard. Have just finished successful campaigns in Snohomish and Stanwood." See also WF 1303-6, 1153, 1318-20.
