Caption Guemes Island July 4th, 1964
Description The SKAGIT VALLEY HERALD published on July 7, 1964, a page of pictures of an old-fashioned 4th of July on Guemes Island.3 "Guemes Islanders revived an old North Beach tradition last week end when they blossomed out with an Independence Day parade which included both youngsters and adults on the island. Included were more than 50 amusingly and patriotically costumed entrants who marched a mile and a half long route along the North shore of the island. Several hundred islanders were on hand for the event which had been a July 4th tradition from the mid-1930s to the late 1940s. It was abandoned to be resumed again this year by offspring of parents who participated in earlier parades. In the foreground is a two-headed visitor from outer space portrayed by a pair of young islanders."
