Caption Childs House
Description This house was built in 1892 for Dr. Thomas B. Childs (1843-1916). Childs came west in 1861, practicing dentistry in California and then Nevada. In 1878 he married Sallie Curtis, the sister of Anna Curtis Bowman. The family moved to Anacortes in 1883 and Dr. Childs soon joined his brother-in-law Amos Bowman in operating the village store as Bowman and Childs. Dr. Childs served as the second postmaster in Anacortes and held several positions in city government. Childs's daughter Marian Childs Watkinson later lived in this home with her husband. Later Tom Kasaler and his wife lived there and did "extensive restoration" on the house. It still stands as of today (07-2011).
