Caption PINSON, Dr. Raymond
Description Raymond Pinson was born April 11, 1922, to Charles and Manilda Marrs Pinson. He graduated from Anacortes High School in 1940, where he was active in football, basketball, baseball, Big "A", Boys' Club, drama, and school government. He attended the University of Idaho on a basketball scholarship. There he met Vivian Potter who was born in Palouse, Washington. They married on May 30, 1943. Raymond continued his education at the University of Oregon dental school in Portland, Oregon, and began his practice in 1947 in the Platt Building at 418 1/2 Commercial. By 1950, Pinson's office was listed in the Medical Dental Building (Empire Building) at 5th and Commercial. He served one year in the United States Navy at Adak Island c. 1950-1, renting his office to his former high school mate Eugene "Bud" Strom. When Pinson returned from naval service, he and Strom continued to practice together. In 1955 they built a new office at 601 O Avenue and practiced together until retirement. Pinson was elected mayor of Anacortes in 1953, which was at that time the youngest person ever elected mayor. Like his father, Charles Pinson, Raymond was a long-time member of the Anacortes School Board. He died in 1987.
