Caption Wilson Hotel Restaurant
Description The Wilson Hotel Restaurant was located in ground floor space in the Wilson Building at 8th and Commercial. Wallie V. Funk, Sr., is probably the man standing in center of photo at rear. One of the earliest mentions of the restaurant in the Wilson Building come in the 1-26-1893, ANACORTES AMERICAN. "Wilson restaurant is now running under the management of P. Jamieson." On 5-4-1893, the paper reported, "E. S. Dodge has retired from management of the Wilson Hotel and E. Moyer of the Keystone has taken his place. Mr. Moyer has engaged an experienced cook and will conduct the hotel proper and restaurant while Henry Kautzman, late of the Kentucky liquor house, will carry on the saloon and bar." The site also served as a dance hall, as reported on 11-12-1896. "Mrs. A. B. Lott will meet children who desire to join a dancing class at the Wilson Hotel Dining Room at 3:00, Saturday afternoon. Lessons will be given from 35. Tuition: 10 cents per lesson." A succession of restaurants moved in and out of the Wilson Building for a century, through the 1990s. This is a view of one of the earlier ones.
