Charles Stapp (Sr.) came to Anacortes 1913. His brother, Ralph, had opened a shoe store in 1911, and Charles joined him in that business as Stapp Brothers Shoes by 1917 at 408 Commercial Avenue. The 1921 city directory listed Charles and his wife Mary at 1719 8th Street, and the shoe store had moved to 614 Commercial Avenue. By 1927 Charles was serving as the Anacortes Postmaster, a position he held until 1935. In 1948 he was listed as a salesman at Brown Brothers Clothing.
Charles Poling Stapp, Sr. (1879-1972), wife Mary Wilson Stapp (1884-1981), children Sylvia Elizabeth Stapp (1907-2005) and Charles Poling Stapp, Jr. (1910-2002),Thomas Wilson Stapp (1913-1917 July 16), Dickinson Wilson Stapp (1919 July 22 - 2003 Oct) and Mary Augusta Stapp (1922-2005).
