Caption PINSON, Charles, Manilda, Raymond
Description Charles, Manilda, and their son, Raymond, Pinson are posed for a portrait. Charles Pinson was born December 28, 1896, and came to Anacortes with a sixth grade education in 1919, shortly after serving in World War I. The city directory 1921 listed Charles and Manilda as living at the foot of 10th Street and Charles working as a watchman for Northern Fisheries. Manilda Marrs was born July 11, 1900, to Alanzo and Gracie Marrs. Raymond Pinson was born April 11, 1922. The 1927 city directory listed the family at Alaska and 2nd, with Charles working as a millworker at Anacortes Lumber Company. By 1940 they were living at 701 O Avenue and Charles was selling insurance for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Manilda was a clerk at the Polar Bear ice Cream shop on Commercial; Raymond graduated from Anacortes High School that year. Charles Pinson was a "long-time member of the Anacortes School Board, an elder in the Anacortes Christian Church, and a staunch supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Memorial Day observances. At the time of his death at 98 in 1995 he was the last surviving World War I veteran in Anacortes. He was married and widowed three times.
