Caption Old Gymnasium scoreboard
Description This view is of the gymnasium scoreboard. Wallie Funk spearheaded a campaign in September 1940 to raise funds for this scoreboard during his senior year in high school. He organized a "Pep Club" that month, which then sponsored a Talent Show on September 26, 1940. The ticket sales helped pay for the scoreboard. His comments include, "First electric scoreboard in school gym. Previously a chalk board and chalk were used, then later, numbers painted on perforated 4" x 5" squares that were hung on nails to denote the score. New board resulted from fund drive and ticket sales to a home talent show, headed by Wallie Funk. $160 raised; paid for scoreboard in full. Installed Nov. 1940. AHS Pep Club formed."
