Caption 1948 Marineer Parade - PTA float
Description The Marineer Parade of 1948 included this float stating, "World Understanding Begins At Home". The driver of the Jeep pulling the float appears to be in military uniform, and the children following the float appear to be in Brownie or Girl Scout uniforms. The float was sponsored by the PTAs of Whitney and Nelson schools. The Anacortes Parent Teacher Association began in 1927; see 9-1-1927 ANACORTES AMERICAN. By the time of the first "All-City PTA Meeting," two associations had organized with one at Whitney and the other at Columbian School; see 9-22-1927 paper. For other PTA floats, see WF 1507, 1554.
