2016.008.001-.004 were framed with this note about the history of Anacortes Steam Laundry.
"The Anacortes Steam Laundry was purchased in 1905 by Hugo and Theodore Erholm. The location at that time was at 8th and Commercial.
A new building was constructed at 3rd and N in 1905 and the business was moved to that site.
A steam engine was used to power the washing and extracting (wringers) machines.
Before the late Twenties or early Thirties fuel for the boiler was slab wood, as I remember, in 4 ft. lengths. In the thirties mostly hog fuel was used.
The steam engine was replaced by an electric motor during the first part of WWII.
In the interior picture of the finishing department [2016.008.004] - Note the "sad" irons heating on the stove. It looks like there are some electric irons."
The note is signed Faye Erholm, April 28th 1991.
Place - Anacortes, WA
