Caption woman and children with bicycles
Description Studio portrait of a young woman, two girls, and a boy posing with their bicycles. One additional young girl poses with her doll. During the Victorian era, it was common for people to pose for their portraits with their most precious possessions. In 1893, W. W. W. Bicycles opened on March's Point; the owner C. E. Ingalls offered "special Prices to Clergymen in an ANACORTES AMERICAN ad on 4-20-1893. Also in 1893 the Anacortes Bicycle Club began; see WF 0982. Bicycles even provided a source of revenue for the city of Anacortes. The 7-6-1899 paper reported, "Tax on bikes of $1.00 each to go into bicycle fund."
