Caption RIO RITA
Description The 6-12-1930 ANACORTES AMERICAN reported, "Purse Seiners off for north." The departure of the fleet for the north included the RIO RITA, built by Barbee Shipyard, Seattle, in 1930, and "recently launched in Seattle and fitted just in time for her maiden season cruise." The boat headed for the Alaska fishing grounds along with HOLLYWOOD, SWEET HOME, and PRESIDENT COOLIDGE, a voyage that took six days and nights to cover 1000 miles. The article mentions the name of RIO RITA's crew, and stated that Captain and Mrs. William Barbee of Seattle, representing the Barbee Shipyards, came to Anacortes for the departure.
