Caption War bond sale
Description The sale of War Bonds is being conducted on the steps of the Anacortes Post office, Federal Building, at Commercial and 6th. There are three images in this series, WF 1825-1827. This view looks southeast toward corner of Commercial and 6th. Between 1941 and 1946, eight out of thirteen Americans (85 million people) purchased war bonds, thus contributing $185.7 billion toward the allied victory. Series E bonds were in denominations of $25 to $1000. If held to the ten year maturity date, they earned 2.9% interest according to the February 2002 SMITHSONIAN, p. 65.
