Caption sheds to shade ginseng crop
Description The Rotogravure section of the January 4, 1948, SEATTLE SUNDAY TIMES featured five pages on Anacortes, "Gateway to the San Juans."

"An unusual crop that thrives in the Fidalgo Island area is ginseng, a root much valued in Oriental countries for its medicinal properties." "Ginseng must have shade to grow and mature properly. Wooden sheds are constructed to cover many acres of the growing plants."
