Caption Trafton boat cabin
Description This view shows Ray Trafton, a Trafton boat cabin, and workers. It is unknown if this business was the same as "South Side Wood Workers" mentioned in images WF 1909-1911. The Trafton family was long associated with boat building in Anacortes. R. E. Trafton was building boats in Anacortes as early as 1900. That year he employed 30 men at his yard. He built the 50' steamer TRILBY and the 55' fishing vessel CHALLENGE as well as more than 80 boats which were mostly large scows, pile drivers, at least twenty-one 50' lighters, and some seine boats. Other members of his family were involved in many Anacortes marine-based businesses.
