Caption Valentine Funk
Description Valentine Funk was the father of Wallie V. Funk [Sr.] and the grandfather of Wallie V. Funk [Jr.]. He was so named because he was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1863, in Germany. He died in Portland, Oregon on August 15, 1956. He came to the United States in the early 1880s and married Barbara Miltenberger (also a German immigrant) in 1884. Together they moved to Washington Territory c. 1888 and to Anacortes c. 1890-91, where they owned many businesses and considerable property on the Fidalgo-Guemes islands. Some of his businesses included City Bakery, Funk Hardware, Wilson Building, Wilson Hotel, and Pioneer Hotel.
