Caption Eureka Mine
Description View of "Eureka Mine". It is quite likely that this photo was taken in the upper Skagit; during this time period there was a mining boom in the Slate Creek, Ruby Creek area, which drew many men from Anacortes. The 05-18-1893, ANACORTES AMERICAN mentioned that Charles Allmond, the brother-in-law of the photo's donor, Cora Allmond, was up at the mining digs. (Cora was married to Douglass Allmond, publisher of the ANACORTES AMERICAN.) It is unknown how long that mining boom lasted. Huntoon may have been brother of John Huntoon, who built the Huntoon Building at corner of 6th and I in 1890. (See WF 0069)
