Caption Rydberg House
Description Peter and Anna Rydberg and family stand in front of their house at 909 23rd Avenue, just west of Q Ave. Peter Rydberg came to Anacortes from Seattle in 1890; the following year Anna Carlson came to Anacortes to work in the Wilson Hotel. They married soon afterward. Both Swedish natives, Peter and Anna immigrated to the United States in 1889. Their first child, Fritz, was born in 1893 and served as the cook on the W. T. PRESTON snagboat from 1912-1952. [See oral history interview with Grace Hastie Rydberg (September 2000).]The Rydberg's other children were Alfred, Berent (married Grace Hastie), Frieda, Evelyn, Emily, and Anna. The house was added on to several times; this early view shows new west wing addition. It still stood as of 10-08-2002. See also WF 0209, 0211.
