Caption 1937 Marineer Pirate Girls
Description The Marineers' Pirate Girls of 1937 pose around the Davey Jones "Hope Chest" at Causland Park. This wooden box was filled rock salt and lowered off the side of the dock on Guemes Channel. People purchased tickets and bet on what time the chest would surface; winners received prizes. As the rock salt dissolved, the chest rose to the surface and upon surfacing hit a timer on the dock, which recorded the time that the chest surfaced. Left to right, the girls are Madeleine Roming, Hazel Ives, Bernice Affleck, Opal Wenzel and Vivian Zimmerman. See 8-16-1937 SEATTLE POST INTELLIGENCER.
