Caption KACK, Mr. and Mrs. ______ Weaverling
Description Mr. Kack and Mrs. _____ Weaverling Kack are pictured at the 60th wedding anniversary of Charles and Nancy Weaverling. Charles Weaverling was the eldest child of James and Frances Weaverling, who settled on the west side of Fidalgo Bay in the late 1870s, giving their name to Weaverling's Spit. Charles was born in Illinois and listed as 21 in the 1880 U. S. Territorial Census. The 1892 Washington State Census noted the Charles, age 33, was married to Nancy, age 24; they had two children, Earl (8) and Charles (3). Based on those dates, it would point to them being married c. 1883, thus making their 55th anniversary c. 1938. The September 14, 1889, ANACORTES PROGRESS reported, "Charley Weaverling has opened a store at his place on Fidalgo Bay." The 1902 Anacortes directory listed Weaverling as a farmer. The 1917, 1929, and 1937 directories listed him as a rancher and living on the family farm at Weaverling's Spit. There is no listed for Charles or Nancy in the 1948 directory. See WF-OH-9B, tape stop 125.
