Wallie V Funk [Jr] on his trip to Mexico in May 1953 taken with Anacortes dentist, Dr. Eugene Alton "Bud" Strom (future Mayor of Anacortes), first going to Los Angeles, California. They met up with Gordon Woodland (Manager of Chamber of Commerce of Anacortes) who was a member of the U. S. Naval Reserve doing a short training in San Diego. The three went on to Tijuana, Mexico, and vicinity. Next they traveled to Arizona where Gordon Woodland's brother lived, to Death Valley Desert, and back to Anacortes. The trip took two weeks. Here he is being silly with his friends by sitting at the "Sea Level" sign and appearing to be hitchhiking.
