Caption Father Treunet's Jubilee
Description This is a close-up view of the main table where the reception is being held in honor of the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Father Gustav Treunet, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church from 1910-1948. Father Gustav Treunet is third from left. To his left is most likely Bishop Gerald Shaughnessy behind the flower arrangement. See the article in the 9-26-1946 ANACORTES AMERICAN. Treunet was born in France on October 16, 1871, and ordained December 128, 1896. In 1910, he came to Anacortes from Elma, Washington. Prior to that, Anacortes Catholics had been served by the LaConner priest who also held services at the Swinomish Reservation. Bishop Gerald Shaughnessy attended Treunet's jubilee celebration, as did sixty other priests from other communities throughout Puget Sound. Father Treunet developed cancer soon after this and died in 1948.
