Caption Logging c rew
Description Logging operation on Fidalgo Island. Group of men sitting on pile of logs, team of horses at rear. Horses succeeded the ox teams of the 1870s and 1880s. Logs were hauled over skid roads to the log chute at the island's shore.Several local farmers raised prized draft horses, such as Percherons, whose strength and agility were prized in logging operations. Note the evidence of forest fire in this photo.
