Description Color enlarged photocopy of trawler, AMERICUS prior to launch in Anacortes with a crowd of people on dock in Anacortes. The AMERICUS was one of five Anacortes boats called the "A Boats"; The AMERICUS was built from the same blueprints as the ANTARES. In 1981 the "A Boats" were converted to do trawling as well as crabbing. Disaster struck the A boats on February 14, 1983. The AMERICUS and the ALTAIR capsized north of Dutch Harbor in the Bering Sea. All fourteen crewmembers lost their lives.
