Caption logged tree
Description View of logged tree with caption on butt: "110 inches, 24 ft. long, scaled at 12,360 board feet." "Mt. Vernon, Wash, 4-11-1897, C.E. Wightman." Log has men on top of it and people with bicycles in front, an image that documents the "bicycle craze" that swept the United States and Skagit County in the 1890s. For more information, see FIRST VIEWS: AN EARLY HISTORY OF SKAGIT COUNTY, p. 110; this image was published in that book on p. 96. Wightman often took photographs in Anacortes in addition to the Mt. Vernon area.
