Caption 1949 Marineer Parade - PTA float
Description During the 1949 Marineers' Pageant Parade, children swing at the rear of this float and play in a sandbox as the float passes Commercial and 18th Street. The sign on the float says, "Elementary P. T. A." The Anacortes Parent Teacher Association began in 1927; see 9-1-1927 ANACORTES AMERICAN. By the time of the first "All-City PTA Meeting," two associations had organized with one at Whitney and the other at Columbian School; see 9-22-1927 paper. For other PTA floats, see WF 1507, 1565. South Side Texaco is visible behind the float. It was listed at this address in the 1948 and 1954 directories, but not in the 1962 directory.
