Description Color enlarged photocopy of ALTAIR on the water, looking toward stern end . The ALTAIR was one of five Anacortes boats called the "A Boats"; The ALTAIR was built from the same blueprints as the ANTARES. In 1981 the "A Boats" were converted to do trawling as well as crabbing. Disaster struck the A boats on February 14, 1983. The AMERICUS and ALTAIR capsized north of Dutch Harbor in the Bering Sea. All fourteen crewmembers lost their lives.
