Caption HYAK aground near Ship Harbor
Description Ferry HYAK went aground on rocks April 18, 1986, at Shannon Point at the northwest end of Fidalgo Island. Skipper Terry Lee, 43, was a veteran of the island route and, at that time, had been with the WSF system since 1962. He had no previous accidents. The ferry was on route from San Juan Island to Ship Harbor.

Boats helping unload passengers included the TEAL, U.S. Coast Guard, and Thibert's crab boat.
