Caption 12th Street Jalopy grounds
Description The "12th Street Jalopy grounds" were located between Commercial and Q avenues. Jalopies were an important part of entertainment in the late 1940s. The 1940 Marineers' Pageant included jalopy races and jalopy entries in the Pageant parade. Jalopy, in this sense, is defined as "noisy old car, heap, wreck, or rattletrap."
