Caption 1940 Marineer Parade - Lady Eagles float
Description This image of the Marineers' Pageant Parade of 1940 shows a float carrying ladies from the Women's Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Anacortes Aerie #249 passing in front of Mel's Signal Service at 18th and Commercial. Other commercial and residential structures are in the background. Mel's was found listed only in the 1939 city directory, not in the 1937 or 1940 directories. Women's auxiliary branches of Eagles were authorized in 1926, and the Anacortes branch of Lady Eagles was founded soon afterward; they were very active in the community. See WF 1457 for another view of this float.
