Anacortes Glass Company was in and out of business several times between 1908 and 1924 at the waterfront and 28th Street. See also WF 0179 and D.V.001.
1908 (4-2) Construction continues on the new Anacortes Glass Plant at 28th Street. Most of the
machinery is in place including a rock crusher, grinder, engine, boilers and air
compressor. The glassworks should be in operation by June 1 producing 12 tons of
glass every 24 hours and employing 50 men & boys.
1910 Anacortes has 4168 people; Seaport of the county, 8 shingle mills, 3 lumber mills ...
1911 (5-18) Glass Factory now in operation.

1915 (3-25) "9 Lumber and Shingle Plants Running Full Time". After being shut down most of
the time since last fall, the Anacortes Glass Co. factory started up the smaller of its two
furnaces last Monday and is employing crew of 15 men. Up to last fall, factory was
running both furnaces on orders for beer bottles. Since then owners are experimenting
in manufacture of flint glass, colorless, transparent glass used in making flasks,
glassware. Met with success. Plant received carload of high grade sandstone from MT
1920 (4-1) Town leaders are hoping to convince the Anacortes Glassworks not to be enticed by
offers from other cities to leave town. In order to keep the plant here, the Chamber of
Commerce has offered to help the company get a $30,000 loan it needs to fix the plant.
Once the expansion is completed the plant could employ as many as 200 men.
1921 No listing in City Directory
1923 (3-22) Valentine Funk bids in "personal property" of Glass Plant at sheriff's sale; plant
will be sold on 4-7 to satisfy mortgage of $18,000 held by Funk and Jensen.
(12-27) Headline on page 1 reads, "Anacortes Glass Factory will resume making glass
at once." "The incorporators are V. Funk, J. O. Jensen, and George Krebs, the first two
being the creditors of the old plant who bid it at the sheriff's sale last spring."
