Caption ROSEN, Carol and Ward
Description Ward and Carol Rosen were the children of Oscar and Dorothy Rosen. The 1948 city directory listed Oscar as a welder for the Anacortes Iron Works; the family lived at 3403 M Avenue. During the mid-1950s, as a teenager, Ward Rosen worked for the ANACORTES AMERICAN. He was diagnosed with cancer and lost his leg as a result. Wallie Funk mounted a fundraising campaign through the newspaper to help his family pay his medical bills. (See Funk's photos of Ward and an ANACORTES AMERICAN article published during the summer of 1956, for that fundraiser.) Ward graduated from Anacortes High School in 1958 and died of cancer sometime after that. Carol graduated in 1961.
