Description Marineers' Pageant Royalty Float (1947 July 26). Queen Doris Springer [Johnson], and court at Commercial and 20th Street. Note sign "Queen Doris" above the throne. Businesses shown in the photograph are Allan's Market at 2104 Commercial and Super-Creamed Ice Cream at 2008 Commercial. [This was the first pageant held since 1941 and it appears the coronation was quite lavish [see WF 1609]. Doris Springer and her princesses won a trip to California as reported by the ANACORTES AMERICAN, July 31, 1947 issue: "Pageant Winners Hollywood trip", "Queen Doris Springer, Princesses Norine Oldow and Bonita Cross head to Los Angeles aboard new United Air Lines DC-4 plane on its maiden voyage. Will participate in programs in Seattle, Portland, and Los Angeles air fields inaugurating the service. Have a full agenda in Los Angeles." [For photos of their departure, see WF 0339 and WF 0340] Full court consisted of: Joyce Neville, Leona Andrich, Marilyn Morrison, Queen Doris Springer, Bonita Cross and Norine Oldow. For complete series of this coronation and Queen's court, see WF 1609 through WF 1626. See NOTES for information on Allan's Market and Super-Creamed Ice Cream.
