Caption M.G. Smith's Restaurant
Description M. G. Smith's Restaurant was located on the corner of 2nd and Commercial Avenue next to the Taylor Hotel. Moses Smith served as a sheriff of Anacortes, and a photo of him may be seen in WF 0749. THe 1892 territorial census notes on p. 81 that Smith was fifty years old, from Massachusetts, and his occupation was a restauranteur; he had a wife, Mary (44) and a daughter, Anna (18); Anna worked as a Post Office clerk. His first restaurant in Anacortes was probably the Palace Restaurant on 3rd Street between Q and P. According to a note on the back of image B), it burned down in March 1905; no reference to it in a newspaper found as of 2002.
