|Caption||Vegetable harvest - poor farm|
The Skagit County Poor Farm and Tuberculosis Hospital on Calhoun Road, built in 1910, served the people of Fidalgo Island as well as the general region. This is from a montage of health care images that Wallie Funk made in collaboration with a series of newspaper articles that he wrote on the history of health care in Anacortes (ANACORTES AMERICAN, 1996, issues 5-1, 5-8, 5-15, 5-22). He borrowed and returned this image.
Three women, at least two appear to be dressed as nurses, at a wagon in a field of harvested vegetables. The poor farm most likely grew it's own vegetables to feed the poor at the farm.
Also is an original photo besides the usage in the montage.
