Catalog Number WF 0070
Description Family of William and Mary Beard and nine children. They came to Anacortes from Michigan in 1889. The 1900 U.S. Census enumerated the family as follows: W. G. (52), Mary (45), Will (25), Mabel (21), Edwin (19), Lila (17), Mary (16), Martha (14), Sidney (12), Graham (9). William Beard served as Justice of the Peace in 1893, Postmaster 1896-1898 and Mayor in 1903. He operated the "Skagit County Abstract Office" on Commercial between 6th and 7th (WF 0072), and in 1905 he also managed the I.O.O. F. /Opera House. His daughters Lila and Mabel operated "The Racket" stationery store next door to their father's business 1898-c.1906. For more family photos, see WF 0069, 0071, 0072, 0109.
