Caption Puget Sound Power and Light window display
Description This Puget Sound Power and Light patriotic window display shows an American flag above a grave with a cross and the word "Husband" at the foot of the grave. The banner says, "Lest We Forget." This image is to the right of the one taken in WF 1822. This was probably an effort to encourage the sale of war bonds, perhaps done in conjunction with the local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter. Between 1941 and 1946, eight out of thirteen Americans (85 million people) purchased war bonds, thus contributing $185.7 billion toward the allied victory. Series E bonds were in denominations of $25 to $1000. If held to the ten year maturity date, they earned 2.9% interest according to the February 2002 SMITHSONIAN, p. 65. See WF 1822-1824 and 2429-2431 for other photos of these windows.
