Photo shows engine (probably the engine described in ANACORTES AMERICAN on 04/07/1892), along with 11 firemen in front of City Hall/Fire Department on south side of 5th Street. On 4/4/1893, the ANACORTES AMERICAN reported Ewing was going to open a shop in Everett and that he had taken a photo of the fire company in Anacortes. This may have been that photo.
Personal history of donor: Valentine Funk (grandfather of Wallie Funk) was a volunteer fireman and is standing in this photo, 2nd from left. 2/2/1953 ANACORTES AMERICAN article on Valentine Funk quotes him: "When I look at the new fire hall, I can't help but recall the times we pulled the apparatus around by hand. Sometimes we would run three miles to fight a fire but of course, I was a lot younger then."
Inscriptions: Front - Written on bottom of negative and transferred to photo: D.B. Ewing Photo; Engine No. 1; Anacortes Fire Department
