Caption 1948 Marineer Parade - Lions Club float
Description This Lions Club float is on a side street before the 1948 Marineer Parade. Children sit on risers at the back of the float and face a woman on a fenced off platform. On the top rail of the fence is a sign reading, "Lions." For other Lions Club floats, see WF 1471, 1477. The Anacortes Lions Club appears to have begun in 1937. Chicago businessman Melvin Jones began the organization in 1917. He believed that local business clubs should expand their horizons from purely professional concerns to the betterment of their communities and the world at large.
