Caption Deception Pass Bridge dedication
Description View of speaker's platform at dedication of Deception Pass Bridge, July 31, 1935. Approximately 12,000 people attended this event. Dignitaries marched from opposite sides of the bridge to Pass Island where Pearl Wanamaker cut the opening ribbon with silver scissors. See paragraphs preceding WF 0607 for more information about Wanamaker's role in the bridge's construction. Afterward, the crowd went to the Cranberry Lake picnic grounds to listen to more speeches by dignitaries including Washington State Governor Clarence Martin, who appears to be speaking at the microphone in this image. See WF 0648 for portrait of Martin. Pearl Wanamaker appears to be sitting behind him, and to his left.
