Caption Children's Parade - Swan Float/ flags
Description The "Juvenile" or Children's Parade of the Marineers' Pageant was usually held on Friday, separate from the big community parade held on Saturday. It had special categories of events: best decorated bicycle, best decorated doll buggy, etc. This view is of a swan float; a swan pulls a sled with two young girls on it. Three boys serve as the flag escort. See WF 1468 and WF 1392.023 for other views of this float on Commercial Avenue. This photo was taken at Commercial and 6th. Western Auto Supply in the Shannon Building is visible on the southwest corner. The business began here c. early 1940s, but later than 1940, and remained at this address through the 1962 city directory. The 1973 -7 directories listed it at 1611 Commercial. Sometime between 1962 and 1973 is was located at 1502 Commercial.
