Description Wool American flag given to William Brown when he left Alaska after serving as U.S. Marshal for many years. 13 stars, not in a circle. 26"x 45.5". Sewn together, 2 grommets. Small moth holes. Donated by Mrs. William Brown. (According to "The Stars and Stripes" by Boleslaw and Marie-Louise D'Otrange Mastai - The U.S. Navy had the privilege of using, on small boat-flags, 13 stars instead of the full complement, until 1916, when Pres. Woodrow Wilson discontinued the privilege.)
