Army Air Corps kacky colored uniform necktie belonged Charles James Russell. He wore his uniform during his wedding ceremony to Virginia Paugh on February 10, 1945. Pvt. Russell was stationed at Chanute Field, Illinois about 130 miles south of Chicago.
Pvt. Russell was assigned with the "army air corps at Rantoul, Illinois. She [Virginia] is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Paugh of Shoemake Avenue. She graduated from Modesto High School and was a member of the band and orchestra. The benedict is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Russell of Modesto. He is a graduate of Modesto High School where he played in the band and belonged to the Camera Club.
The just weds had a 10 day honeymoon which they spent in Chicago. They are residing in Rantoul." as read in the Modesto Bee after Feb 10, 1945.
Another news article from the Modesto Bee around 1946 read: "MODESTO SOLDIER GETS HONORABLE DISCHARGE Charles J. Russell recently received his honorable discharge from the army air forces at Denver, Colo. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Russell, Route 5, where he and his wife are now making their home."
Russell trained as a cadet in Texas, Illinois and Colorado.
